A misandrist is a person who hates men. Other feelings a misandrist might have toward men include anger, contempt or fear. While misandry is often tied to women, it is possible for a man to be a misandrist as well.
Misandry is the opposite of misogyny, or hatred of women. Therefore, someone who is a misandrist may develop such feelings toward men in response to male misogyny. In many cases, a person becomes a misandrist based on negative or traumatic personal experiences with a male. Childhood trouble with a father or brother could spark misandry, for instance. Misandry may also be propulgated based on the depiction of men as evil villains in movies.
