Texas A&M University is a military college in Texas and is one of the six senior military colleges in the United States, as of 2015. In addition, several colleges in Texas offer Army ROTC, such as The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Houston, states the U.S. Army.
Military training was mandatory at Texas A&M University when it was founded as part of the Morrill Act of 1866. Corp of Cadets membership became voluntary in 1965, but remains a large part of the school, as of 2015. Other colleges in Texas that offer Army ROTC include University of Texas at San Antonio, The University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Tech University, according to the U.S. Army.
