The mascot of the Dedham High School Mauraders is a pirate in the classic 17th century style. The mascot changed to a pirate in 2007 from an angry Native American in an effort to change the mascot's image. The school administration, however, did not officially accept this new mascot.
The original name of the Dedham High School athletic teams was the Shiretowners. Following the name and mascot change in the 1960s, the high school, based outside of Boston, Massachusetts, adopted a crimson and gray color scheme along with the Maurader name and Native American image. In 2015, the administration of the high school began to discuss a new mascot in place of the pirate.
