According to Kidz World, you can make a hurricane model by creating a hurricane in a bottle. To do this, you need an empty soda bottle, a piece of paper, a pencil or pen, and a large pitcher or sink. Kidz World provides instructions on how to construct the hurricane in a bottle.
First, fill the empty soda bottle with water all the way to the top. Use a large pitcher to fill the bottle if you are not near a sink. Next, think about how long it takes for the water from the soda bottle to empty out into the pitcher or sink. Record your estimates with a pen or pencil on the piece of paper. Then, without squeezing the bottle, time how long it takes for the water from the soda bottle to empty out completely into the pitcher or sink. Kidz World advises you do this step several times to validate your time. Next, fill the soda bottle to the top again. This time pour the water back into the pitcher or sink while swirling the bottle in a clockwise or counter-clockwise motion. The water begins to swirl in the shape of a vortex as it quickly flows from the swirling bottle.
