With approximately 45,000 faculty and staff and 447,000 students enrolled across the 23 campuses, the state-funded CSU system is the nation’s largest four-year public university system. According to CSU, roughly one in 10 employees within the state is a CSU graduate.
As of 2015, the Fullerton, Northridge and Long Beach campuses are the largest enrollment-wise, while the Maritime Academy, Channel Islands and Monterrey Bay locations are the smallest.
U.S. News & World Report 2015 rankings place California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona, CSU Long Beach, CSU Chico, and San Jose State University among the top public schools in its rankings of regional universities in the western United States, which it based on data gathered from institutions on up to 16 indicators of academic excellence.
A similar assessment of 2,500 higher education institutions recently featured seven CSU campuses in TIME Magazine’s rankings of the top 100 colleges and universities.
