The SVT Lightning is a high-performance pickup truck that Ford manufactured between 1993 and 1995, and again between 1999 and 2004. The original generation of SVT Lightning was a rear-wheel drive, two-door pickup truck that boasted a 240 horsepower V-8 engine with 5.8 liters of displacement. It could go from zero to 60 in 7.2 seconds. Ford sold 12,000 SVT Lightnings between 1993 and 1995 for around $22,000 a piece before ceasing production until 1999.
The second generation of SVT Lightning had the same rear wheel drive, two-door pickup truck design, but it was more expensive and more powerful. The second generation had a base price of close to $33,000. It had a smaller, 5.4 liter V-8 engine, but it was supercharged to produce 380 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. This version of SVT Lightning could go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds and weighed almost 5,000 pounds.
SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team. It is a branch of Ford devoted to creating limited-number, high-performance vehicles. SVT's current high-performance pickup truck is the SVT Raptor. The SVT Raptor comes with four-wheel drive, and either a two or four-door cab. It utilizes a 6.2 liter V-8 engine that makes 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque. It starts at around $45,000, as of 2015.
