A Lexile measure is a method of evaluating text for its complexity and a reader for his skill level. The reader is then matched with appropriate reading material for his ability.
To find a reader's Lexile measurement, he can complete any of more than 65 assessments that report results in terms of Lexile measurements. This method differs from that of assigning a grade level in that, rather than comparing a particular reader to others taking a particular test, the Lexile measurement shows his level based on a developmental scale.
The Lexile measurement of the text evaluates the semantic and syntactic features of that text. Millions of reading pieces, including books and websites, have been evaluated. The measurement is then reported by a number followed by a capital L.
