Some items on a kindergarten readiness checklist include fine motor skills, such as putting together a 10- to 12-piece puzzle, and gross motor skills, such as being able to run, skip and jump. Additionally, social skills, such as playing with other children, are found on the checklist.
Other items on the checklist include being able to use words instead of becoming physical when upset and speaking clearly so adults can understand. Kindergarten readiness also includes talking in sentences, telling stories about past events and enjoying being read to. As far as academics on the readiness checklist, recognizing shapes and colors and understanding concepts such as up and down are included as well.
