The initials PCH are often used to refer to Publishers Clearing House, a direct marketer offering magazines and a range of merchandise, as well as digital "play and win" entertainment. PCH also refers to sections of California State Route 1, better known as Pacific Coast Highway.
The Mertz family founded Publishers Clearing House in Port Washington, New York in 1953. The company originally offered its consumers discounted magazine subscription offers. PCH launched its first sweepstakes in 1967 seeking to draw attention to its magazine offers. The company began to offer products such as household and personal items, home entertainment and collectibles in 1985. Since 1988, PCH has operated "The PCH Prize Patrol" to capture on television the candid reactions of sweepstakes winners.
