The School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas, ranks first. It has grades nine through 12, with 253 students. 93 percent of the students are proficient in math, and 99 percent are proficient in reading. It requires 11 AP courses before graduation.
Carnegie Vanguard High School, located in Houston, Texas, ranks third. It has 590 students in grades nine through 12. 99 percent of the students are proficient in English, and 96 percent are proficient in math. Course levels include AP, pre-AP and honors. The school requires every student to complete 100 hours of community service before graduation.
Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, Illinois, ranks fifth. It has 1,069 ninth through 12th grade students. 100 percent of the students are proficient in reading, and 98 percent are proficient in math. Its curriculum includes physics, technology, constitutional law, and computer science courses that include web and database design. Students can also take part in study abroad programs.
