Some top pre-med schools include Harvard, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Pennsylvania. These prestigious colleges all have undergraduate programs intended to prepare students for medical school.
One of the nation’s top colleges, Harvard offers a range of resources to prepare students for med school, including dedicated pre-med advisers who are available to students at any time. The university also features a range of pre-med student groups, including the Harvard Hippocratic Society and the Harvard Premedical society. Harvard also offers a handbook for pre-med students that recommends course selections.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers no specific pre-med program, but students still receive substantial support and preparation. Particularly of note is the school’s respected Medical Education Development program, a summer course that allows students to shadow real doctors and participate in a series of lectures and seminars. The majority of students who take the MED course are accepted into med school.
While some pre-med programs rush their students through undergraduate degrees on the fast track to med school, the University of Pennsylvania encourages students to complete their degree in four years, taking additional courses in preparation. Located near the Pennsylvania Hospital, the school offers students many opportunities for volunteering and internships.
