Students apply for the scholarship, worth about $1,000 to $1,500 each year, in their freshman year. Juniata awards the scholarship to sophomores, juniors and seniors attending the college, and they continue to receive the grant until they graduate. The scholarship recipients cannot transfer their grants to other academic institutions. The late Mary Francis Beckley, a left-handed Juniata graduate, established the scholarship in 1979.
