Some easy and fun science project ideas for fourth graders include projects such as a pizza box solar oven that demonstrates the power of solar energy and a jumping cereal project which displays the properties of static electricity. Each project uses simple household items to conduct experiments.
A pizza box solar oven is constructed using a pizza box, aluminum foil and black construction paper. The project also requires masking tape, clear plastic film and a string. Using the sun as a source of energy, comparisons are made on cooking different items.
The jumping cereal project uses puffed wheat cereal, a shallow dish, a plastic comb, a small piece of wool and a plastic toothbrush box. By rubbing the comb on the wool, static electricity is produced. When the comb is passed over the cereal, the cereal is attracted to the plastic and seems to jump.
