Some good free university-level online courses made available by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, are found on ocw.mit.edu. Also, free online courses from different professors are available on OpenLearning.com.
MIT Open Courseware has many free courses on architecture and planning, engineering, the humanities, the sciences and management. There are both undergraduate and graduate courses available for private study. You can watch the video lectures, read the course notes and take the assessment, if available, depending on the type of course. Some courses have even been translated into other languages, such as Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish and Korean. Supplementary resources like textbooks have also been made available for free download. Note that you do not receive any degree or certificates for completing any course on this site. Also, some courses require special software for use which you might have to download.
You can also find free online courses on OpenLearning.com on many topics from arts and design to sports and fitness. There are three types of courses-university courses, skills bases courses and lifestyle courses. You can choose to take either self-paced or live courses among the many courses available. Typically the instructor is a professor of that subject from a reputed university.
