Some fraction games for fifth graders include common denominator war, proper proportions and fold for fractions. In fold for fractions, a student folds a piece of paper into squares, unfolds the paper and colors some of the squares to discuss how the small squares are fractions of the larger whole.
A teacher can use proper proportions to teach students about fraction using a deck of playing cards containing only the number cards. On a piece of paper, the teacher draws a line lengthwise down the sheet to form a fraction bar. Halfway down and above the line she places an equals sign. The students place their cards on the paper above and below the line to make proportions.
