Flat Stanley provides children with the opportunity to connect with other children around the world. Children send out a "flat" visitor via mail or electronically using the Flat Stanley app. After sending out the visitor, children discuss the character's adventures, as they write about and track the visitor's journey. Flat Stanley is similar to a pen-pal activity; however, it is designed to invoke more excitement from students and make it easier for students to write to each other, since they already have the Flat Stanley experience in common.
To start a Flat Stanley project, visit the website to register and log in. Look at the list of participants, determine who you would like to send a Flat Stanley to, and see who might be sending one to you. Email the participant to confirm the exchange and allow the participating child to create a Flat Stanley. Include the sender's name, the return address and your email address on the character.
Once Flat Stanley is ready, mail or email him to the recipient. Track your character's journey, and wait to receive confirmation from the recipient that Flat Stanley has arrived at his destination.
