Find samples of synthesis writing at many university websites, including UMUC.edu. Synthesis writing is taking one or more sources of information and comparing them to create a viewpoint and defend it using established resources.
Synthesis writing is when a writer takes established information from a book or website, reflects on this information and creates a new or different viewpoint on the chosen topic. The purpose is to convince the reader that she is correct in her evaluation through use of examples and cited reference to accepted documents.
Rather than repeat information given, synthesis writing is like a conversation, where thoughts are "bounced around" until new ideas and reflections on the information are reached.
