What Are Some Division 1 Colleges in Texas?

Some colleges in Texas that are in the National College Athletic Association Division 1 for various sports include University of North Texas, University of Houston, Texas Tech University, Texas State University San Marcos, Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University. These schools each have sports teams that are Division 1, but not every school has a Division 1 team for every sport.

The NCAA has three divisions, and splits teams into divisions to make athletic competitions more fair. Schools that are in Division 1 typically have very large student bodies, have a very large athletic budget and in general have higher athletic support than schools in higher divisions. It is possible for a school, such as Stephen F. Austin State University, to have a sports team in Division 1 and a different sport team in Division 2.
