The GRE (Graduate Record Exam) is difficult in that it usually needs to be prepared for, and involves upper level English skills. However, the difficulty also varies; the difficulty of each successive question is based on the accuracy of the answer to the previous question. The quantitative section of the GRE is not significantly different from SAT math, but the verbal section does involve more advanced words than the SAT.
The GRE tests math at a seventh and eighth grade level. The exam as a whole is designed to test skills acquired at college level. It is composed of a math, vocabulary and writing section, thereby covering a range of subjects.
