Some different acting colleges include theater programs at Purchase College at State University of New York and Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Both of these schools offer programs where students can earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and gain professional training as an actor.
Purchase College at SUNY houses The Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film, which includes a professional actor training degree program. The BFA Acting program is a four-year curriculum with classes that include the practical study of movement, speech and voice. Students also take classes in areas of theory such as dramatic literature and theater history. Because the program is a training program for professional actors, a high level of time commitment is required, including a full schedule of classes as well as rehearsal and performance hours. A large number of program graduates find work in the acting profession, appearing in theater, film, television and other media productions.
Tisch School of the Arts at New York University offers a BFA degree in acting, where students have the opportunity to pursue professional conservatory training in acting. Students work in studio-based classes to learn about the theoretical and historical aspects of the acting craft. After completing a year of studio work, students are eligible to audition for different production and performance roles and gain valuable professional experience.
