The word "culture" has two main meanings: one concerns a society's beliefs, customs, arts; the less popular meaning indicates the cultivation of bacteria or plants. During the Middle English period, the word "culture" originally means "a cultivated piece of land". From early 16th century, there arose a sense of the word which was "cultivation of the mind, faculties, or manners". Eventually, the most popular meaning, as it is used nowadays, appeared in the early 19th century. These days, people usually use the word "culture" to indicate a particular society's belief, customs, arts, the society itself, artistic activities, and so on.
