Agnostic is a word that is used to describe a person who believes that it is not possible for human beings to know whether or not God exists. Agnostics describe themselves as having neither faith nor disbelief in God.
Another component of the agnostic belief system is that if God does exist, humans would not be able to fully understand the concept of God. This component leads some agnostics to believe that there is no point on using energy to prove or disprove God's existence.
Agnostics are sometimes confused with atheists, but the two belief systems are very different. Atheists firmly believe that God does not exist. This is different from the agnostic belief that it is impossible to know if God exists and fails to recognize that agnosticism covers a wide spectrum of belief.
