Common Core education is a set of standardized expectations for what students should know in order to be prepared for entering college or the work force. These standards guide instruction in the classroom and assist teachers in assessing the academic progress of their students.
The Common Core State Standards were written in 2009 by a panel of educational and government leaders in order to offer consistent learning goals regardless of where the student lives. These goals are focused on real world applications and critical thinking skills that are intended to prepare the student to compete in the global economy. For some states, the Common Core Standards are much more rigorous than the previous expectations.
