The University of Alaska was established in 1917. Originally, it was the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines. During the first year of operation, it was a simple two-story building with only six students. The school was renamed in 1935, over 10 years later. In 1954, The University of Alaska absorbed Anchorage Community College, and a year later, Juneau Community College.
