The University of Pennsylvania is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and its Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care has many critical care opportunities, which include a level one trauma center. The Core Laboratory for analytical chemistry is part of the Center for Anesthesia Research. Students can take one or more rotations, clerkships, externships or anesthesia research projects that include opportunities in pain management and surgical care. The School of Nursing has a nurse anesthesia program for advanced nurses to receive certification as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri, offers training for a clinical, education or research career in anesthesiology, and it offers four- and five-year programs.
