Do College Courses in Marine Biology Result in a Degree or Certificate?

Students may take marine biology courses as part of an undergraduate or graduate certificate or degree program related to marine biology, and students in other programs may be able to take marine biology courses as general education or elective courses. One school offering related graduate certificate and degree as of March 2015 is Nova Southeastern University, which offers biological science, marine biology, coastal studies and marine environmental sciences among its areas of study.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, aspiring marine biologists should take classes in math, English and social science, in addition to the scientific areas of zoology, biology, physics and chemistry. Having a degree in marine biology specifically is not a set requirement, according to the NOAA, and students may earn degrees in other biological sciences.
