Multiple studies show that collaborative learning is a good method for students to learn another language. Students enjoy interacting and collaborating with one another. Opportunities to participate in school exchanges, explore new cultures and make social links abroad are powerful motivators for students to learn a new language.
The progress that results from collaborative learning, however, is difficult to assess. The monitoring and recording of collaborative tasks is more difficult to assess than the traditional methods of grading or testing an individual's work.
Despite its drawbacks in assessment, collaborative learning is a method proven to aid students in achieving more and in gaining higher self-esteem.
