What Is a CDA Degree?

CDA stands for the Child Development Associate Credential. It's part of an early childhood education degree, and is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education.

The five major specialties available with a Child Development Associate Credential are preschool, infant and toddler, family childcare, home visitor, and military school age. The focus of the credential is on developing an understanding of competency standards, so the educator is able to teach children the skills they need to be successful as they get older.

In 2012, GED holders and students enrolled in high school programs focused on early education were allowed to work towards their Child Development Associate Credential. In 2013, the 300,000th Child Development Associate Credential was awarded.
