As of April 2015, the System 44 reading program, which is used in kindergarten through12th grade schools, is only available for purchase by schools through Scholastic. Schools pay a licensing key based on how many classrooms and students will use the program, and professional development for learning to use the program also requires a fee.
System 44 is designed to help students who are having problems reading, including those who are not native English speakers or have disabilities. It includes exercises to teach students phonics and spelling, increase their vocabulary, develop their writing skills and improve their reading comprehension. Teachers lead students through the program that utilizes software that adapts to the students' needs.
