In order to take the certified surgical technologist exam, candidates must first submit an exam application form with the required fees, according to the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. If the board approves the candidate, she receives a test authorization number and may proceed with his scheduling the exam. An applicant's current certification status, work experience and education determine which application and supporting documentation she must submit.
The certified surgical technician exam is developed by the examination review committee, which consists of 10 professionals, including six current certified surgical technologists, three surgical technology instructors and one board-certified surgeon.
