Students can use Turnitin to check drafts of their academic papers for plagiarism and to submit an assignment in their class portfolio pages. The portfolio page, linked to the class name on a student’s home page, provides a list of all the tasks that a course instructor creates for his students. If the page does not display any assignments, then students cannot submit a paper on Turnitin.
Students can submit assignments for plagiarism check in formats such as DOC and DOCX, HTML, PDF, TXT, RTF and PPT, among others. The program also accepts any other format, provided that the student sets the uploader to Accept Any File Type mode; however, assignments submitted in any of the unspecified formats may not appear in Turnitin’s document viewer. Assignment files uploaded to Turnitin must be 20 megabytes or less.
Students can only submit files within the stipulated time of the assignment. Students can check the start dates of assignments on Turnitin by either clicking on the assignment’s title in the class portfolio page or by checking the start and due dates under the assignment name. Clicking on the name of the assignment brings up a pop-up window that provides details about the task.
