A listing of Regional Occupational Program classes in Long Beach and the surrounding area is located in the Southern Region Directory at the California Department of Education's website, CDE.CA.gov. Classes are offered at the Long Beach School for Adults and in nearby Norwalk at Southeast ROP.
Regional Occupational Programs are designed to provide career training and technical skills to high school students age 16 and older and to adult learners. The California Department of Education maintains a list of all the programs available throughout the state. In the Long Beach area, classes are coordinated through the Long Beach Unified School District. The Long Beach School for Adults and Long Beach City College offer both technical training and career skills classes.
As of 2015, Long Beach City College's ROP programs include welding, medical assisting, phlebotomy, child development and electrical technology. Metal fabrication, fire science, culinary arts and auto mechanics are also offered through Long Beach City College.
At the Long Beach School for Adults, students can take classes to become a certified nurse assistant or an animal care provider.
At the Southeast ROP in nearby Norwalk, courses offered include career training for certified nurse assistants, dental assistants, pharmacy technicians and medical coding and billing specialists. A complete list is available at SoutheastROP.org.
