School districts may obtain information about SuccessMaker v7 software, its various deployment models and purchasing options via the Pearson School website. Students and families may download the SuccessMaker app for iPads for free on iTunes. As of 2015 there is not a corresponding app available on Google Play for Android.
SuccessMaker v7 is a computer driven reading and math program that focuses on individualized instruction, according to the product's manufacturer, Pearson. SuccessMaker is intended to be used to supplement in-class instruction in Kindergarten through Eighth grades. The program includes state-appropriate curriculum for English and Math pursuant to each state's standards, including Common Core and state additions to Common Core. After an initial student assessment, the software creates an individualized path through the curriculum based on each student's particular educational strengths and weaknesses.
Reviews on the effectiveness of SuccessMaker are mixed. The official Pearson website contains a large section with positive testimonials and reviews from school districts, teachers and students recommending the product and touting improvements in math and reading. The Institute of Education Sciences, on the other hand, found the program to have no perceptible effects on reading fluency or alphabetics and potentially positive effects on comprehension and general literacy achievement.
