Although there are authorized online programs in construction and general industry available through certain providers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, 511 course is specifically classroom-based. OSHA training centers and colleges offer the course.
OSHA 511 is named OSHA Standards for General Industry, and it provides an introduction to the organization's policies and standards and provides an overview of safety. It covers such topics as ergonomics, electrical safety, hazard communications, fire protection and record keeping. Although individuals can't take the course online, they usually can register for it on the provider's website, and flexible course dates and times are usually available. The course leads to continuing education units and prepares individuals for additional OSHA classes.
