Khan Academy, Mighty Nurse and Brilliant Nurse are online resources that offer some free NCLEX-RN practice tests. The National Council licensure examination is a test that entry-level nurses must take before they can practice. Many nursing students take review course or take practice tests to prepare for this examination, which tests both nursing knowledge and judgment.
The Khan Academy site has an extensive collection of practice NCLEX-RN questions that apply to the various areas of nursing, including tachycardia, cyanotic heart diseases, pneumonia, lung cancer, vasculitis, pleural effusion, stroke, bronchitis, emphysema, asthma and many other topics. In each one of the topic section provided by this site, there are a variety of different questions that have multiple choice answers. Once a test taker answers a question, he can check it.
The Brilliant Nurse website provides 75 questions for this examination. The practice test can serve as a self-assessment to determine if the test taker is ready to take the actual exam. Similarly, the Mighty Nurse site offers four practice tests that have 30 questions each with pertinent answer rationales. This site also has tips for test takers. Some helpful tips are to take the examination as early as possible after graduation and to study for at least two to three weeks prior to the exam by reviewing books and taking practice tests. In some cases, students may also take a course or class to ensure a high passing grade.
