College Navigator also provides lists of colleges by names within the proximity of a particular zip code or larger, multi-state region. Users may also create custom lists of colleges by filtering by degrees offered, such as a certificate, bachelor degree, associate degree or advanced degree. Further filtering supplies lists based upon a college's status as public or private and as a two- or four-year institution. The website also allows users to browse lists of colleges based on the degree offered.

Users of College Navigator can also create lists of colleges based on the size of the student body and the total price of attendance, including both tuition and fees. Users can further refine the list by the school's local setting, classified as either rural, suburban, town or city. The site provides other specialized lists, including those filtered by religious affiliation, varsity sports teams, test scores and the percent of applicants admitted.

The list of colleges available from the University of Texas at Austin lists the schools alphabetically by state.
