Many websites offer ideas and instructions for science projects based on grade level. Education.com and Science Buddies are two such websites that offer science projects for grade 5.
Education.com allows users to browse and search hundreds of free science classroom projects and science fair project ideas. Visitors can narrow down their search based on grade level and subject. As of 2015, a search of fifth grade science fair projects returns more than 400 results. Projects are further categorized based on subject and difficulty. Students can choose from projects such as how to make lightning and how to purify water.
Science Buddies offers a Topic Selection Wizard to help students and parents find science fair project ideas. The wizard helps users find ideas based on grade level, subject area and when the project is due. It then offers a short survey to help users find a project that interests them. Submitting the survey returns a list of project ideas including instructions. It also provides the difficulty level, time required and estimated cost of the project.
The Discovery Education website also offers many resources for choosing science projects through their Science Fair Central. Although it does not offer instructions for specific projects, it does provide tips for choosing and completing a science fair project. It also has resources for grade 5 teachers, such as lesson plans, worksheets and graphics.
