Coaching certification requires taking accredited classes such as The Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches, Concussion in Sports and typically a sport-specific course. Certification requirements are similar across the country but vary slightly from state to state. You can also pursue national coaching accreditation.
To become certified to coach, research the requirements for one's state on the National Federation of State High School Associations website, NFHSLearn.com. This site also lists the national coaching requirements. You can complete the courses needed through this site online or from another college.
Many college students planning to go into education take coaching classes during college so they can graduate ready to coach with a completed coaching endorsement. However, coaching classes can be taken at any time online.
The United States Sports Academy has a program available to help coaches become certified through three levels. These levels and classes help coaches improve their technique, grow in knowledge, complete the program through distance learning, stay current in the world of coaching and obtain promotions, raises and desirable coaching positions. Another online option for certification is the American Coaching Academy. If you are already teaching and preparing to coach, this option allows for self-paced classes leading to certification.
