Major textbook publishers Pearson, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and McGraw-Hill are some producers of biology textbooks as of 2016. All three companies produce a high school textbook entitled Biology. Campbell Biology, a college level biology textbook, is published by Pearson’s college division.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which focuses on the K-12 market, is another large educational publishing company. Its biology program is supplemented by various teacher resources including a digital lab generator. McGraw-Hill's program also includes an online virtual lab that students and teachers can access.
