In 2014, popular baby boy names ranged from historic or biblical names such as Jacob, to trendy names such as Mason or Aiden. According to the Social Security website, Noah was the most popular baby boy name in 2014, holding onto its top spot from 2013.
The most popular baby boy names in 2014 included the names William, Liam, Ethan, Daniel, Alexander, Jayden and Lucas. The name Jacob, which was listed fourth by the Social Security Administration, was previously a top baby name from the years 1999 to 2012. Meanwhile, Mason, which grabbed the No. 3 spot, has only been in the top five since 2011. The sudden rise in popularity may be due to many celebrities naming their children Mason, perhaps giving the name widespread exposure.
The name Jayden was also a popular boy name in 2014. This name, however, may be falling out of popularity, as it fell from ninth most-popular in 2013 to 16th in 2014. In contrast, the name William has stayed in frequent use. The name is old and many historical figures, world leaders and politicians have used the name or some variation of it. In recent years, it has risen in popularity, going from 11th most-popular in 2004 to fifth in 2014.
