The Fashion Institute of Technology requires undergraduate applicants to submit a portfolio. Candidates do not have to provide letters of recommendation. The school requires graduate applicants to submit a resume and an essay.
Applicants who hold a high school diploma or have passed the General Educational Development test can apply to any of Fashion Institute of Technology’s associate degree programs. The school does not allow high school students to apply directly to BS or BFA programs.
Graduate applicants have to submit an application online and upload their transcripts. They also need to mail to the school their official transcripts in their original sealed envelope. They must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. In addition, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Applicants who are applying to the art market program have to provide their Graduate Record Examination scores. They also need to have taken at least four college-level classes in art history. Graduate applicants who are applying to the fashion and textile studies need to have completed at least four college-level classes in art history or related subjects.
Candidates who are applying to the global fashion management program need to have at least three years of work experience in a fashion-related sector. Candidates who are applying to the exhibition design program need to submit a portfolio with 20 pieces of design work. The portfolio must include samples of drafting in Vectorworks or AutoCad.
