Almost any activity could use a stopwatch in a classroom. Stopwatches are used to help both teachers and students regulate the time spent on any one activity.
For instance, if students are working on improving their literacy, the teacher may time them while students read in partner pairs during a structured partner literacy building activity. Another teacher may have his or her students use a stopwatch to time how much they are able to read or write in a given block of time. As part of a classroom management strategy, a teacher may utilize a stopwatch at the beginning of class to motivate the students to begin working on provided assignments. Of course, they can also be used for classroom games, regulating group work, and other activities.
