The STAR reading test is used in kindergarten through 12th grade schools to assess skills in the areas of language, foundational skills and reading literature and informational texts. The test is in a format that adapts to each student's responses. The results show educators students' strengths and weaknesses in reading so that teachers can better plan instruction to help students improve reading skills.
Schools that use the STAR reading test can give a version that aligns with Common Core standards or a version that aligns with general grade-level core standards. The test covers a total of 46 reading skills and is known for its effectiveness. Educators can administer the test on Apple iPads, since Accelerated Reading offers an application.
