The AARP Smart Driver Course is a refresher driving course for drivers age 50 and older--the first and largest of its kind, according to AARPDriverSafety.org. The online course is eight hours and a participant has 60 days from the date of registration to complete the course. A list of available classroom courses is available through the AARP website. Users must select their current state of residence when registering for the course, as driving laws and requirements vary from state to state.

The course is designed to provide the tools drivers need to stay safe on today's roadways. More than 97% of drivers have reported at least one change in their driving habits due to taking the course. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate. While there is no test to pass, there are helpful quizzes designed to confirm comprehension of the material.

There is a fee to take the course, with a discount available for AARP members.
