The United States Postal Service administers the 473 postal exam to measure the aptitude and characteristics of job applicants. Used as an entry-level screening tool, the exam does not test knowledge about specific job duties as of 2015.
A passing score on the 470 postal exam ranges from 70 to 100 points. Military veterans may receive an additional five to 10 points, as mandated by the Veterans Preference Act.
A passing score on the test does not guarantee employment. Successful applicants go on an eligibility list for further consideration as new employment opportunities become available. The postal service announces upcoming test dates on USPS.com.
