Charles Walgreen opened the first Walgreen's drugstore in early 20th-century Chicago. Walgreen became known for his excellent customer service, high-quality pharmaceuticals and bargain household goods. At the time of Walgreen's death in 1939, he had successfully opened over 500 stores. His son took over the family business and by 1984, Walgreens had over 1,000 locations. Partnering with Alliance Boots, Walgreen's began to sell products internationally in 2014.
