The Walgreens Balance Rewards program allows members to earn points on select items purchased at retail locations, on prescriptions and immunizations purchased at the pharmacy and for health-related activities. Points can then be used to get rewards for future purchases.

With the Walgreens Balance Rewards program, 5,000 points equals a $5 reward, 10,000 points equals a $10 reward, 18,000 points equals a $20 reward, 30,000 points equals a $35 reward and 40,000 points equals a $50 reward, as of 2015. During checkout at a Walgreens store, members are asked if they want to use their points on the current p3urchase or earn points on that purchase. A customer cannot redeem points and earn points on the same transaction. Members can use a maximum of 40,000 points on one order.

Balance Reward points expire in three years on an active account or in 6 months on an inactive account, as of 2015. In order to receive sales pricing at Walgreens stores, customers must be members of the Balance Rewards program. Balance Rewards points can be used in conjunction with coupons. Balance Rewards members can also earn points for walking, keeping track of their weight and keeping track of their blood pressure and blood glucose levels under the Walgreens Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices program.
