The Morningstar Mutual Fund Screener lets investors find funds using a set of specific criteria or see analyses for funds by Morningstar professionals, states Morningstar. To use the tool, follow the steps below.
Use the tool's drop-down menus to select the fund type, including the fund group, its Morningstar category and length of desired fund tenure. Next, select the desired minimum initial purchase, whether load or no-load funds are desired and the expense ratio of the fund. Set the ratings and rank for the fund by selecting one to five stars, or tick the box to search for New, Unrated Funds if desired. Choose from the desired returns for year-to-date, 1-, 3-, 5- or 10-year funds. Finally, select the desired portfolio criter for stock or bond funds, such as turnover, average market cap and duration.
Once the search criteria is established, click the Show Results tab to view funds that meet the specified criteria. Choose to view the funds in four different views: Snapshot, Performance, Portfolio or Nuts & Bolts. Modify the search by clicking the Change Criteria tab.
