Gather your Social Security number, tax filing status and the exact amount of your expected refund. This information is needed in step three.
Go to the IRS website, and click on the Refunds tab. Click on the third section to access the Where's My Refund tool.
Enter your Social Security number in the first set of boxes. Select your filing status for the refund you are checking. Enter the amount of money you are expecting in your refund.
Click on the Submit tab. Once the system has processed your information, it gives you an update on your tax refund. Note that the site is updated once every 24 hours.
