The electronic check option allows the customer to pay by inputting his account and bank routing numbers, found at the bottom of a check, into an online payment form. It works much the same as a paper check, but with Ameren, no fees are charged.
Most modern banks have an online banking system that allows the same type of transactions as a physical bank. Ameren customers with this banking option may enrol in the program and then pay their monthly bill electronically. No fees are charged by Ameren, but the customer's bank may do so.
Ameren customers may also pay their bills online using a MasterCard or VISA credit or debit card or an American Express credit card. Up to five card transactions are allowed in a 25-day period, and a convenience fee is charged for each payment. Credit or debit cards may also be used to pay Ameren bills by phone.
